12 May 2019 -- Day 4 -- St. Petersburg

 We docked around 7:30am among slightly overcast skies, but as the morning progressed the sun came out and we had temps in the high 60s, what a wonderful Mother's Day.  We enjoyed a leisurely day aboard the ship and met some of the entertainers and Viking historians.  
Our river and canal tour is tonight and we are really anticipating that adventure.  We took some pictures of the sites from the ship, including the Gasprom Office Building (center)

Our "night" river and canal excursion was exceptional, even though the sun never set completely because St. Petersburg is so far north.  It was the beginning of "White Nights", as they call it here, with sunrise at 4:30am and sunset around 10:00pm, officially.  

At every turn there was something photo-worthy, from the gold dome at St. Isaac's to the spires of St. Peter and Paul.

And from the replicas of old ships to reconditioned battleships and submarines, our camera never stopped.  The Neva River and the canals flow between well-preserved buildings along with bridges and parks.  




St. Petersburg truly is the "Venice of the North" with over 320 bridges, 32 islands, and an untold number of canals, large and small!  As our excursion came to an end we were treated to the grand finale of a fiery sunset.

And tomorrow St. Petersburg by land!

    I didn't realize there were so many canals there! I'm glad you enjoyed the cruise! It seems like a perfect contrast to your next day's land tour!

24 May 2019 -- Day 16 -- Oslo We are at the end of our Scandinavian Adventure! A day of touring the capital city, some of it in the sun and wind after our train ride, and some in the rain on Friday!  We started out yesterday afternoon with a leisurely walk from the hotel to the major sights in the downtown. The first stop was the  new opera house that is designed to represent a glacier falling into the  ocean and the sculpture in the water in front of it that depicts a sailing ship striking and iceberg. 22 May 2019 -- Day 14 -- Bergen, Norway Docking in the city at 8:00 am to a overcast, foggy, drizzly day.  So there's not much in the way of pictures, and most of them we took as we walked around the center city. The tour around Bergen and its various suburbs was very informative and we learned much about the area and its history.  However photos will have to remain in our memory banks as the opportunities were weather-interrupted.  We did manage to get those below.
