10 May 2019 -- Day 2 -- Stockholm and Sweden Archipelago

Our shock last night was coming back to the room to NO towel animal!!  Viking doesn't do them, but we are NOT complaining!!

We started the day with bright sunshine at 5:00am, then a wonderful breakfast and then the tour of Stockholm and its history. It's made up of 15 islands and each has a real history behind it, dating back to the the 15th Century or more.

The architecture of Stockholm varies from old to modern. One of the famous landmarks is the city hall which was constructed from 8 million hand-made bricks and still is in use today.  They have the dinner each December to celebrate the Nobel Prize winners at the City Hall.

We set sail from the port of Stockholm at 2:30pm and went through the 30,000-island and islet archipelago (YES, 30,000!) that is part of Sweden and distances some 37 miles to the Baltic Sea. 200 of the islands are inhabited, some with just one house and others with condos and other infrastructure.  Some of the so-called "islets" are just rock outcroppings.  It has to be one of the most scenic parts of the cruise thus far!

And we continue to sail to our next port of call, Helsinki, docking tomorrow morning and more adventures...!
Enjoy your evening as we will enjoy ours meeting the Captain and entertainers tonight!

  1. That’s a lot of islands!! Fascinating to think about the work getting things to an island to make it habitable - building materials, food, supplies, labor... Sorry you don’t have towel animals nor your Mahjong card. Love you <3
